New Populations of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum from Lettuce in California and Peas and Lentils in Washington.
ABSTRACT Four populations of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum in North America were inferred previously, based on analyses of both rapidly evolving markers (DNA fingerprint and mycelial compatiblity), and multilocus DNA sequence spanning the range between fast and slow evolution. Each population was defined as an interbreeding unit of conspecific individuals sharing a common recent ancestor and arising...
متن کاملBiological control of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (Lib.) de Bary by Pseudomonas and Bacillus species on canola petals
Four bacterial strains, Pseudomonas chlororaphis (PA-23), Bacillus amyloliquefaciens (BS6), Pseudomonas sp. (DF41) and B. amyloliquefaciens (E16) which had been found to have biocontrol activity in vitro assays against Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, the causal agent of stem rot of canola, were tested for their efficacy in greenhouse and field conditions. Microscopic studies showed that P. chlororaph...
متن کاملAscospore release and survival in Sclerotinia sclerotiorum.
The release and survival of ascospores of a UK Sclerotinia sclerotiorum isolate were studied. Apothecia placed in a spore clock apparatus with different lighting regimes at 15 degrees C released ascospores continuously with an increasing rate for the duration of experiments (72-84 h). Spore release was not confined to light or dark periods in alternating regimes and occurred in continuous dark ...
متن کاملEngineering Sclerotinia Sclerotiorum Resistance in Oilseed Crops
The fungal pathogen Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (Lib.) de Bary is worldwide in distribution and pathogenic to more than 400 plant species. This disease causes significant yield losses of various important crops including sunflower, canola, and soybean. Applying fungicides and crop rotation are currently the major methods of controlling this disease. However, fungicide chemicals are expensive, not ...
متن کاملAntagonism of Aspergillus Terreus to Sclerotinia Sclerotiorum
An Aspergillus terreus strain showed in vitro antagonistic activity against the plant pathogen Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (Lib.) de Bary. The interaction between A. terreus and sclerotia revealed that the mycoparasite sporulated abundantly on the sclerotial surface. Cell breakdown due to host cell wall disruption was observed in inner rind cells, by a scanning electron microscopy.
